Aaron and Adam's Rainbow Stained Glass Ketubah

Aaron and Adam came into my life through our Temple Emanuel in Beverly Hills, where Aaron is the amazing Youth Director.  I was so excited when he and his fiance, Adam, decided to order a custom hand painted ketubah

Here is a snapshot I took of the handsome couple when we met up for coffee and ketubah talk:

These cuties had matched on Tinder in the summer of 2020 -- who says nothing good came out of the Covid era?

Aaron and Adam wanted their ketubah to their deep relationships to their families, both blood related and chosen, as well as expressing their sense of pride for the communities they belong to and, of course, their commitment and connection to one other.

When they browsed my blog to check out what other couples had designed for custom ketubahs, they were drawn to a stained glass look like in that of Sarina and Jonathan's ketubah

They requested a stained glass inspired design with a lemon tree, because they have one in their yard, and a Tulip and Poppy to represent each of their favorite flowers. And of course, a rainbow color scheme!

Here are the sketches I made for them:

After some feedback, here is the final sketch we came up with:

A request for an artistic ketubah with lots of bright colors is music to my ears!

I couldn't wait to get to work.

I had so much fun plotting out all the shapes and colors.

I couldn't wait to show them how their rainbow ketubah came out!

With as colorful as their ketubah was, I was on pins and needles waiting to see their wedding photos -- I could only imagine the bright and joyful celebration that it would be! And they didn't disappoint.

How incredible are their boutineers? Wooooow! I would like their florist to decorate my house please. Los Angeles folks, these amazing flowers are by Something's Blooming LA!

Can these two be any more handsome and in love?

I asked Aaron and Adam how they knew that they had found their Beshert (soulmate)?

Aaron: I knew after the first date he was the man I was going to marry. He was so sweet and kind.

Adam: There was a conversation we had one of our dates, watching Moulin Rouge at the drive-in and talked about letting go of old friendships and then after the first Christmas Aaron spent with my family I knew.

What is the most important value as a foundation for your marriage and why?

Communication! We spend the year and a half of engagement learning how to improve our communication. We came from two different upbringings and needed to learn how to better our toolbox to effectively communicate with each other.

What was your favorite moment of the wedding day?

Aaron: The vows were my favorite moment. Even though we were surrounded by loved ones, we got to also just share with each other and laugh, which I love to do with Adam.
Adam: Being able to smash the glass for the fragility of our relationship as well as smashing a piece of glass as a recognition of the LGBTQ+ community and our ability to withstand anything that comes our way. Smashing the glass was a beautiful moment.
Their wedding was officiated by the wonderful Cantor Lizzie Weiss, who certainly knows how to make a ceremony meaningful and moving!

What advice would you give to other couples just starting the wedding planning process?

Aaron: You both have different strengths and weaknesses and will not agree and that is okay! Learn how to compromise!
Adam: Go into planning the best day you want to have and if you lead with that, everyone will have the same amount of fun that you are going to have. We wanted to plan a party where everyone had a great time and kept that vision. People are still talking about our wedding months later.

Another special treat for me was getting to make more colorful rainbow Judaica for this wonderful couple!

You see, another synagogue friend wanted to order some matching gifts for Aaron and Adam! So, I got to design.....

A Rainbow Challah Board

aaaand a Rainbow Challah Cover

aaaand a Rainbow Mezuzah Case

Now they have a full Judaica set to match their rainbow ketubah.

Three cheers for aaaalll the colors!

What a good idea to order Judaica to match your ketubah!

Pro tip: add my website to your wedding gift registrar and I'll make you a matching set too...

These gorgeous photos are by Adam Griffin Photo.

Adam and Aaron, may your life together be as colorful, joyful, bright and enchanting as your ketubah and your wedding day! Wishing you a lifetime of happiness together. L'chaim!
