Jewish Identity, Connection and Hope After October 7

A collection of original mixed-media paintings by Anna Abramzon

Created in the aftermath of October 7, Shehecheyanu explores grief, resilience, Jewish identity, and the extraordinary connections that sustain us.

The collection is currently on exhibition at the Edith and Robert Zinn Gallery at the Evelyn Rubenstein JCC of Houston through December 14, 2026. Each painting combines layered paper collage, painting, and metallic elements that shift and catch the light as the viewer moves around the work.

Original paintings are available for acquisition. To inquire about a particular work, please contact the artist. Purchased paintings will remain on exhibition through December 14.

All paintings on aluminum panel are mounted with wood backframes and arrive ready to hang. No additional framing is required.

The chuppah in Sukkat Shlomecha is constructed from pieces of masking tape marked with the number of days the hostages were held in Gaza. Inspired by Rachel Goldberg-Polin, whose son Hersh was murdered after 330 days in captivity, people around the world wore these numbered pieces of tape over their hearts as a daily reminder of the hostages and the passage of time.

The title of this painting was inspired by a story from captivity. Hersh Goldberg-Polin shared a thought from Viktor Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning, originally drawn from Nietzsche: "He who has a why can bear any how." Fellow hostage Or Levy carried those words with him through captivity and, after his release, had them tattooed on his arm. When his young son asked what the tattoo said, Or answered simply, "Your name."

This painting is about that why—the love that gives us the strength to endure.
